As fall approaches, so does a new school year. For many kids it’s a fresh start with new school supplies and clothes, but for thousands of children in the Rio Grande Valley, the new school year won’t start off quite so bright. They simply don’t have clothes that fit or their clothes are too worn to wear. But South Texas College’s Culinary Arts Department is cooking up a plan with Renee’s of Sharyland and Shareable Wearables to collect donations to buy Valley children who are less fortunate new back-to-school clothes.
“At STC, education is what we are all about and we know how important that first day of school is to starting off on the right foot,” said STC culinary arts instructor Chef Paul Wendland. “We are focused on helping students of all ages achieve and do their best, so we felt it was important to get involved in this program and help as many kids as possible cook up a terrific new wardrobe for the 2008/2009 school year. We want these kids to go into the classroom with great self-esteem and we know that it will shine through in their school work.”
Those interested in donating are asked to make a contribution of anywhere from $20 to $100 to purchase needed clothing items for children of a variety of ages from pre-school to high school. The last day to contribute is July 27.
Donations should be sent to:
